MSLC honors its 2016 graduates at poignant ceremony
Mt. Scott Learning Center (MSLC) honored another outstanding group of high school graduates on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Harrison Park School Auditorium.
Twenty-eight MSLC students received diplomas at the annual graduation ceremony, which highlighted the individual and group accomplishments of the senior class. The highly poignant and reflective ceremony celebrated MSLC graduates through music, speeches, a variety of audio-visual presentations, and the traditional pomp and circumstance.
Following the graduate processional and opening welcome, a Graduate Reflections video was shown featuring some of this year’s graduates. In the video, graduates reflected on their experiences before and after coming to Mt. Scott, and shared their plans for after graduation. The video showcased the uniqueness of the graduates and the community at MSLC.
Keely Wojciechowski and Hector Padilla were chosen by their peers as the ceremony’s student speakers and delivered inspiring and emotional speeches to the overflow crowd.
The Graduate Spotlights video featured photos of each graduate mixed with a recorded reflection about that particular graduate from a staff person, family member or close friend. (Links to this video, as well as all audio-visual presentations shown at the ceremony, are included on this page.)
Aaron Balogh, Dean of Students, and Megan Barrett, Manager of Curriculum and Instruction, presented the diplomas to rousing cheers and camera flashes from proud family members. All of the graduates were brought back on stage for the ceremonial flipping of the tassels (and tossing of the graduate caps) before leaving the auditorium to American Authors’ song, “Best Day of My Life.” A reception for graduates and their families followed in the auditorium lobby.
